A bed to sleep in.
Tess and I (hopefully) fly out of Stansted at 9 am, which means getting up at about 5 am and trekking across London. We were staying in a hostel, which would have made catching the flight a real bother. We met up with Sam and Eavan the other night, two friends we made back in Sarajevo. They were going home for christmas the next day (ie. leaving London) and offered their house for us to stay in...

Robot Heart
robot-heart-politics: **trigger warning** I’m kind of hoping someone takes me up on my offer to find one place where I’ve said, ABSOLUTELY, Assange was a rapist. I’m hoping it will mean they’ll actually read what I wrote. Wouldn’t that be novel! “…publishing the charge of Assange having sex with the woman while she was asleep, which most of us can agree qualifies as rape.” ...

A Bayesian Take on Julian Assange →
ghostofatotalstranger: An interesting insight into the Julian Assange scandal. Much more level headed take on it, compared to my rantings. This is a fair explanation of why caution is required when pursuing this case.

But some people* aren’t discussing credibility. They have already made...

Got in to London at 1 am last night.
We were both exhausted, and cold, and looking forward to crashing the night at the house of some friends we made in Paris. Only, they weren’t picking up their phone, and my phone was nearly out of battery. Long story short, we rocked up at a nearby hostel at about 2 looking for a room. Tess was nearly passing out, and my grumpy face had crept up on me, so the two drunk guys in the elevator...

THE ECONOMIST: DROP IN FOR A BITE WITH VLAD TEPES →
onebloceast: From the Eastern Approaches blog over at The Economist: NOT one person in a million outside Romania will have heard of Vlad Ţepes (pronounced Tsepes). They may have heard vaguely of him under the name of “Vlad the impaler” but are most likely to confuse that real-life figure, a scourge of the Turks in 15th-century Romania, with the entirely fictional Dracula created in Bram...

Berlin to Paris or: How I won't be flying Easyjet...
Tess and I woke at 5am to get to Berlin Schönefeld Airport, which is not really in Berlin and is closer to the middle of nowhere. We left our apartment, trudging through the snow along the deathly silent street that we had called home for some three months, and made our way to the tram. At Alexanderplatz, we jumped on the S-Bahn and headed out to the airport - a good 25 minute ride away. Our...

Support for Assange is not Rape Apologism
correlationstonone: What people are really saying is that they’ll trade the rapes for Assange’s accomplishments. I’m not sure why people aren’t being honest. It’s pretty clear Assange is a rapist who will be convicted. What’s unclear is if it’s maximum utility to provide satisfaction to the rape victims at the cost of WikiLeaks’ credibility and future operation. Whoah, whoah, whoah. ...

Life: Retrospection →
sarahinsanfrancisco: It’s become a habit of mine to set certain arbitrary dates as points of future reflection. In other words, when something happens to me (usually something either incredibly positive or incredibly negative) I, after reveling in the emotion of the moment, inevitably begin to wonder where I’ll be a year from then. So I make it a point to remember that on “November...

There seem to be two main waves of opinion going...
Those who feel that the charges against Assange are suspicous on a number of levels. Those who feel that not enough respect is being given to the alleged victims. These schools of thought are not at all mutually exclusive, but a distinction between the two still seems to exist. I have these thoughts: Members of school #1 are fair to say that there are grounds for reasonable suspicion. ...

barretta: Julian Assange is under arrest in London on an international arrest warrant issued by Swedish authorities. The good news? He deserves to be under arrest. The bad news? He deserves to be under arrest for what he’s done and not for having sex with some publicist without wearing a rubber. I now find… What U.S law did he violate?
